AP 42, Fifth Edition, Volume I,
Chapter 9 Food Processing Industries

AP-42 contains emission factors and process information for more than 200 air pollution source categories. The emission factors have been developed and compiled from source test data, material balance studies, and engineering estimates. The Fifth Edition of AP-42 was published in January 1995. Since then EPA has published supplements and updates.

Chapter 9 covers agricultural and food processing categories. This information can be used to identify potential sources of air pollution and help calculate the potential to emit air pollutants.

Listed below are selected sections of AP-42 Chapter 9 that relate to food processing (the entire AP-42 document is accessible under More Information, at the bottom of this web page). For each of these food processing activities, pollutant emission factors are presented where data are available. The primary pollutants emitted by these processes are total organic compounds and particulate.
